What about Mark Foley?

by Derek W. on October 9th, 2006

Republicans are between a rock and a hard place right now. No one can defend Foley’s actions of course, but it would also be hard to defend the actions of any politician who knew what Foley was up to and failed to do his utmost to stop it. It’s also hard to defend the initial reaction to the Foley scandal (documented above), and that initial reaction itself now undermines Republican efforts to counteract frenzied Democratic attacks.

That’s one paragraph from my article “A Democrat’s Dream,” which appears in the latest issue of Civilized Revolt. The article deals with, perhaps obviously, the recent Mark Foley scandal and how Republicans should handle it.

Other articles include:

If I Were A White House Press Secretary by Jarret Mock
Accepting the Giants by Noah Stansbury
God-In-A-Box by Darcy Ingraham

So head on over and check it out. In addition, remember that a new issue of Virtue Magazine will be coming out next week!

We’ve been having some technical difficulties with the website that have delayed the launch of Issue 2.17., but the issue is finally up! We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience!

Coming this Monday . . .

by Derek W. on August 15th, 2006

This Tuesday we will not only be publishing our latest issue of Virtue Magazine, we will also be making an important announcement about our future that you won’t want to miss. In addition, we are planning a special edition for the September 4th issue of Virtue.

In the meantime, check out Sam Ashwood’s new blog post on recent comments from Billy Graham.

Our future is stuffing envelopes and begging for money!

by Derek W. on July 5th, 2006

I recently ran across this post at a website called “Talk To Action.” The writer is concerned about what he feels are efforts of the “religious right” to get “young people involved with their political goals as early as they can.” Generation Joshua is apparently one of these insidious groups that engages in “indoctrination,” and most of the post, which you can read here, is about that group.

To our delight, the writer later added that “Another effort at getting teens involved in the Christian political process is the Virtue Magazine written by High School students.” That’s not really accurate, but we got a kick out of it nonetheless. Some of the other comments were also quite interesting, including this one:

When it’s all said and done, these bright young people will have a degree that is worthless from an unaccredited school. Their parents will be out significant tuition. The young people will be adept at ringing doorbells, stuffing envelopes, making phone calls and begging for money. Put that on a resume along with their expertise in creation science, knowledge of Michael Farris’ twisted (re)Con Law and what are they qualified for?
Talk about used up and thrown away! Very, very sad.

Yes, very sad indeed.

New issue of Virtue Magazine

by Derek W. on March 31st, 2006

Just a quick reminder that a new issue of Virtue Magazine should be coming out sometime this coming Monday! Unfortunately, I’m a little short on time here, so there will be no “preview” of the articles in this next issue. Just remember to eventually make your way back here to check out the new articles and the discussion!

Virtue Magazine’s new survey

by Derek W. on March 20th, 2006

We’ve put together a survey with the goal of learning how we can improve Virtue Magazine, especially when it comes to what type of articles our readers want to see more of in our mag.

It’s a short survey, and will only take a minute or two to fill out. You can find a link to the survey page on the right hand toolbar under “More Information,” or you can just click here.

Preview of Virtue Mag, Issue 2.6

by Derek W. on March 16th, 2006

Another brand new issue of Virtue Magazine will be coming out this Saturday, featuring a number of articles definitely worth checking out!

Among the highlights:

President Without A Party by Samuel Ashwood
A look at John Tyler, one of the most obscure presidents in United States history.

Unwanted: Jayde by Theresa Moss
A 16-year old discovers she is six-weeks’ pregnant with twins, and aborts them both. But what happens when one of the twins survives the abortion?

Remembering Mayberry and Looking Beyond The Headlines by Derek Wallace
A look back at The Andy Griffith Show and actor Don Knotts; and a book review of Charles Colson’s Burden of Truth: Defending Truth in an Age of Unbelief.

In addition, Alessandra Kroger and Noah Stansbury engage in a friendly point/counterpoint with each other over the question: were the Articles of Confederation originally passed by the Continental Congress in 1777 flawed? Was the U.S. Constitution the right answer?

Also in this issue: Samuel Ashwood continues his series on World War II, and Derek Wallace continues his series, Gunning for the Presidency!

New feature for Virtue Mag!

by Derek W. on March 4th, 2006

As many readers of Virtue Mag have probably noticed, after every article there is a “thumbnail” biography of the person who authored the article.

A while back, we thought it might be cool if we had slightly longer biographies so we would have something more of substance to put on the “About Us” page on Virtue. Casey Coolidge, one of our staff writers, decided he would take on the responsibility of writing these bios, and all his hard work has finally come to fruition!

You can check out this new feature by going to the “About Us page, and clicking on the names of anyone you’re interested in learning more about.

(Note: Biographies are limited to those who are staff writers; not guest writers)
