Soaring Gas Prices: The Sequel

by Matt on August 16th, 2005

We Americans are so spoiled. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong with that, but the way we’re reacting to these record-high gas prices is starting to border on whining, when our ‘friends’ over in Europe have been dealing with gas prices much much higher than we’ve ever had. And guess what? They’re hitting records. Real records: Amsterdam hit the record price yesterday of $6.48 per gallon, and Oslo $6.27. This chart shows the list of gas prices of many different companies. The US isn’t shown there, but you can judge from reports that the US is pretty dang low on the list.

Now who is the one really dealing with record gas prices? The US isn’t as bad as some would like it to be. Most of those record high gas prices are due to the flawless beuracracy in Amsterdam. What I mean by that is two-thirds of those prices are tax. So stop whining America and start drilling. Or, like I’ve said before, if we don’t drill here, we can always invade Canada and take the Albertan oil fields. More oil than the Middle-East, so they say. grins
