The AP weighs in on Ann Coulter

by Derek W. on December 8th, 2005

Browsing through today’s edition of the MSU Reporter (the newspaper of the university I attend), I couldn’t help but notice an Associated Press article about Ann Coulter and a speech she gave at the University of Connecticut Wednesday night.

Or perhaps I should say, a speech she attempted to give. Apparently she cut off the speech after 15 minutes due to continuous booing and jeering from what was probably a majority of the audience. Instead, she simply held a half-hour question and answer session.

There are a couple of things I want to point out here. First, the MSU Reporter’s headline was—in big, black, bold letters—”Coulter Booed Off Stage.” The MSU Reporter happens to be a pretty liberal newspapers, as most college newspapers probably are. No big deal. But the Reporter’s headline wasn’t quite accurate, as anyone who read the entire first paragraph of the AP story is able to see. Coulter was not booed off stage even though these college students were engaging in extremely rude and obnoxious behavior; rather, she simply cut short her speech and instead held a question and answer session. Perhaps the Reporter was a bit too eager to make Coulter look bad? As the newspaper points out in its subtitle: “Controversial columnist Ann Coulter on Impact’s list of possible speakers to present major lecture next spring at Minnesota State.”

Secondly, conservatives will get a laugh out of the snappy comment Coulter made regarding her question and answer session:

“I love to engage in repartee with people who are stupider than I am.”

She actually said this to her audience of 2,600! The word touche! comes to mind here.

Last but not least, the AP article itself, written by a Shelley K. Wong, seems to be nothing more than a hatchet job on Coulter. You can read the entire article here to form your own opinion.

It’s hard to believe Shelley K. Wong even bothered to quote a Republican expressing disgust over the audience’s boorish behavior.

Aw, boo hoo, poor Ann Coulter. Why don’t you guys wake up to the fact that she is a hack regardless of her political perusasion? She never has the facts right and always resorts to name calling. If she is an example of the Republican Party brain trust, you are in a heap of trouble.

BTW, for all of her hatred of East Coast Elite Liberals and love of Middle American Conservatives, don’t you find it ironic that she lives in luxury in NYC amongst all of those liberals she claims to hate?

Okay if you’re so awake can you back up your statement?
Why do you call her a hack?
and when does she not have facts?
and so what if she lives in NYC?
BTW about the name calling… the name Al Frankin comes to mind…

[...] I’ve also done a blog post dealing with Ann Coulter, where I comment on how Coulter had to cut off a recent speech due to continuous booing and jeering. [...]
