Soaring Gas Prices

by Derek W. on August 16th, 2005

Gas prices continue to rise, as illustrated by this AP Photo.

When adjusted for inflation, today’s current prices aren’t quite as high as they were in the early 1980s, but they’re inching closer and closer to that mark. It will be interesting to see if President Bush ends up facing the same kind of heat that President Carter did 25 years ago.

Hmm. I paid 2.54 per gallon last time I filled up, and the highest gas station in the county was 2.65. That’s for regular. It guess, all things considered, that isn’t too bad, but I remember the first time I saw gas with a “2” as the first digit. Haha, I remember when my father used to fill up on premium gas for 1.80 a gallon.

One advantage Bush has in this deal is he’s not up for reelection next time, like Carter was.

Wow, Keith, I acn remember just a few years ago when Albertson’s opened up their gas station, and had a sale on gas for $0.74 a gallon! The other stations were only about twenty cents higher. During the Gulf War, as I recall, it was around 80 cents, though I was pretty young then. It’s gone up astronomically, just in the past 15 years. I dread to think what another 10 years will bring…
